The Band is Composed of Two Sections
The Pipes
The Drums
The bagpipes create the characteristic, majestic, dramatic sound of the band. The pipe section is led by world champion piper and Houston native Kevin Thames. Pipe Major Thames has dedicated his life to the preservation of, and teaching of the Celtic arts within the Wichita community. He is an esteemed educator with the Wichita Classical School by day where he teaches classical history and biology. He is a collector of fountain pens, and a sucker for a Persian rug.
The drum section, or more properly the battery, is the heartbeat of the band. The sharp percussive nature of Scottish drumming holds the band to beat, and emboldens our sound. Our award winning battery is led by Rob Farmer. Rob is a cardiovascular electrophysiology specialist (MHCL, BSRT, CCDS, CEPS) by day, and a true musician at heart. Rob is a founding member of the band, and has long served in various roles throughout. Rob is a drummer, guitarist, bee keeper, chicken farmer, motorcycle enthusiast, and loving husband and father.

The Wichita Caledonian Pipes & Drums are the premier performance and competition pipe band in south central Kansas. Since its foundation in 2006 by members of the Wichita music community, WCPDB has quickly become a leader in honoring, teaching and sharing the spectacular legacy of traditional Highland Bagpipe music.
Wichita Caledonian Pipes & Drums has an absolute commitment to the preservation of the Great Highland Pipes within our community. Facilitated by a curricula developed by professional musicians, members of the band volunteer countless hours offering instruction on both pipes and associated percussion, all at absolutely no charge to the student! Through this process, the band hopes to ensure the future of piping and broaden the visibility of the arts.

We have personnel to fit any request: holiday parties, parades, weddings, funerals … thanks to an incredible diversity in our repertoire, no event is too large or too intimate.
